Graduate Program of Higher Education Management

Mission

The Master's Program of Higher Education Management, the first such program of its kind in Taiwan, was established in 2012. The mission of this program is to cultivate prospective higher education management professionals.

Features

Of all educational levels, higher education plays a pivotal role. It is the venue for knowledge, research, and development; it nurtures talents for a country's construction and development as well as enhances its overall competitiveness. For decades Taiwan's higher education has witnessed rapid progress under the concerted effort of government, colleges, universities, enterprises, and related organizations. In the course of pursuing academic excellence, however, it needs a master's program to deal with issues of higher education management such as governance, system, curriculum, teaching and research, learning efficacy, employment, faculty and staff development, financial planning and analysis, quality control, evaluation, accreditation, fund-raising, etc. The above needs justify the establishment of this program, which facilitates long-term research on higher education management issues with a focus on higher education performance assessment and accreditation, aiming to ensure higher education excellence and sustainability.

The faculty in this program are recruited mainly from education, higher education, and management disciplines. They investigate higher education policies, systems, governance, and management as well as higher education trends and issues of the USA, Japan, European Union, and other developed countries.

Curriculum Planning

The curriculum are composed of compulsory and elective courses. Compulsory courses aim to nurture comprehensive understanding of higher education ideal, development, policy, and practicum. Elective courses are geared toward students' interests and career development. To obtain a master's degree, students need to complete 32 course credits as well as a master's thesis.

Future Development

The program is devoted to nurturing prospective higher education management professionals by strengthening their governance ability. Furthermore, it provides quality in-service training for higher education academic and administrative personnel in keeping with the trend of global higher education.

Career Opportunities for Graduates

1. higher education academic research

(1) Graduates can proceed to pursue doctoral studies in other education or management institutes.

(2) Graduates can work for National Academy for Educational Research, Ministry of Science and Technology Council for Economic Planning and Development of the Executive Yuan, or Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan. They can work on higher education policy planning or other research areas in the above organizations.

(3) Graduates can work at universities or their affiliated institutes as assistants or research fellows.

2. administration of government and higher education institutes

(1) Graduates can take higher education administrative positions at Ministry of Education after passing government exams.

(2) Graduates can take higher education administrative posts at universities and their affiliated institutes.

(3) Graduates can take posts at the Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan.

3. employment at education and education-related institutes

Given that students' have completed courses in Educational Administration, Higher Education Theory and Practice, and in additional elective courses, such as Human Resources Management, Financial Planning, Public Relation Studies, and Curriculum Planning and Management, they are able to work for education and education-related institutes.
